I spent last night designing a little dress for her. It takes a little practice to sew for an 8" doll. I picked a lovely light weight polka dot fabric, and some light green ribbon to flatter her hair color. I started the sewing last night.
I pleated the bodice, and added a lace trim to the bodice and the pettycoat. I finished it this afternoon at the Frog Pond while the children were playing. I used little bits of ribbon for the straps, and added a simple ribbon belt to highlight Betsy's petite waist.
I am having so much fun!

She is beautiful. I can see why it was such a temptation to get one for yourself.
Ooh! What a lovely dress for your new Betsy! I too have a Betsy and your work certainly has inspired me to start making clothing for her!
Neither could I resist buying a Betsy McCall doll back in March when I saw your previous post. I was a little disappointed that she is a collectible and not a toy but she is certainly darling.
Dear grammyman,
Which one did you get? Little Miss SockPixie plays with hers, and I am planning on playing with mine as well. I am even planning a dollhouse...

The first thing I ever sewed was an outfit for my Barbie. I was 11 or 12 and did all of the stitching by hand. It was enough to make me want to sew for myself... with a machine, tho. Thanks for prompting the memory with your lovely Betsy and her dress!
Very cute. Must be a challenge to make outfits that tiny though. Looking forward to seeing her wardrobe expand--especially her fabulous leopard coat!
I don't think one is ever too old for dolls. She is very cute! Love the little dress.
