Which yarn do you recommend? Is wool or cotton better?

This is a very cute hat! Thank you for making this available to everyone :)

A quick question...how can I modify this to fit an adult sized head?

Thanks,
Dianne

How funny! I was just thinking about creating a hat just like this over the weekend. The petal detail on the bottom is much nicer than what I had in mind. :) I think I'll be casting on tonight!

It really is gorgeous - and I'm glad I'm not the only one who immediately thought "Hmmm, I wonder if I can mod it to fit an adult..."
Thanks so much for sharing!

Honestly, I was thinking of working up a pattern just like this! My daughter would really like a "flower hat like the fairies in this book". I'm sure your pattern is much better than what I would have done! Yay!

Your clochette baby hat is adorable! It's really the sweetest little hat pattern I've seen online in many a year. Thank you for making it available to the public.

I just finished this hat for a baby shower tomorrow, I still need to block it but it turned out just adorable - not every pattern does! It was worth the effort to make and learning the new skill of single crochet along the edge. Great job on the pattern, I appreciate it. :)

I love this hat! I am new to knitting and I'm not sure what PM and SM stand for. Could you clarify that for me? Thank you!

I recently rejoined the world of knitting after a hiatus of about 30 years. After completing one re-starter project, I thought I would be ready for the Clochette, but the terminology is unfamiliar to me. I really love this hat and want to make it for my granddaughter. Can someone help me by translating the direction abbreviations with the "M" in them into simple terms ? I am also totally new to blogging, so help on that process would be appreciated too. It is great to learn there are so many people out there knitting. I look forward to doing a lot more of it too. Thank you all for sharing your talents and skills.

It was extremely interesting for me to read this article. Thank you for it. I like such topics and everything that is connected to them. I definitely want to read more on that blog soon.

I'd really like to make this hat. I am a fairly new knitter with only a couple of baby sweaters, one pair of baby pants and a few scarves under my belt! I think I can do it though with a little more explaination for the petals. I looked up "make one" and "slip marker" and the other terminology. I got confused though as to how to repeat the rows. Could you write out a sample third and fourth row for me? I think I could grasp it then. Thank you so much! I have the perfect yarn for this and want to make it before my baby's head it too big!

I knew right away when I saw this pattern that it would be a perfect spring time hat for a little girl I know.

I'm making the largest size and have noticed that there is a discrepancy in the stitch count. The 23-stitch petals plus the purl stitch between them yield 120 stitches total instead of the 110 listed for the total count. I opted to stop at 21 stitches [ (21+1) x5=110] to make it "fit" both the stitch count and the little girl's head measurement, and it is going to work out just fine. But you may wish to clarify it in the pdf for other users.

Thanks for this great design and for the other cute patterns on your blog and for your attention to this.

Thank you for sharing this adorable hat design! I love it very much!
Though I have questions about the stitch number as Janet mentioned, I fix them anyway.

For the abbreviation 'PM' that seems to stand for 'Purl Make', please see the video in the link: http://vimeo.com/13440934

Still do not know what 'SM' stands for. These two terms are definitely not related to 'place markers' as suggested in some search results.

Hello, I also found some disagrements regarding the stitch count number. I opted to make (5X22)+5=115 and pray that it will fit the head of the baby some time during her life :-).
I think PM means place marker while SM means slip marker
There is an excelent web for all of this:

Hope it helps

Oh snap! I realy want to knit myself a hat like this! I'm a beginner at knitting so I'm not sure if I'd be able to make this hat but I hope I can!

PM means to Place a stitch Marker
SM means to Slip a stitch Marker

The pattern instructions for the largest size are still wrong. The petals should end with 21 stitches. Then if you cast on one stitch between each petal you will have the final count of 110 stitches.
